First you will meet the Rapport system in Piehole, the first area you have access after the initial missions. However, while NPCs like Beria and Sara will be available to chat from the beginning, many are blocked until your virtue statistics are high enough.
The statistics of virtue are separated from the main combat statistics and are only necessary for the Rapport system. They are divided into wisdom, courage, charisma and kindness, and different levels of each one are needed before being able to interact with the majority of the Rapport NPCs.
The increase of each can be done in several ways. Some missions will offer a direct increase in virtue statistics, while others have potions of statistics from virtue as a reward for completing them. The potions of virtue statistics are important if you want to increase these statistics quickly, with some of them blocked behind the Rapport missions (which are shown with a pink search marker). You will also get statistics from virtue when collecting titles; These are applied independently of the title that you have equipped.
Once you can talk to an NPC, you can begin to increase your relationship range by performing daily tasks. The three main ways to get rapport and increase this range are:
Give gifts: Limited to 99 per day
Gifts are a quick way to promote the relationship, assuming that it has the correct items. Each NPC has a preferred set of gifts, which can be viewed through the Rapport menu (default Alt + N, or in the Adventure tab). Gifts can be obtained from several places, including merchants and commercial sellers.
Touch Instruments: Limited 5 per day
You can play songs for Rapport NPCs to get a decent rapport boost, with each song limited to 1 playback per day. Only certain songs can be played for certain NPCs, although this can only be verified once you choose the option «Play instrument». Some songs, such as Heart's Melody, unlock through the progression of history, while others have more specific requirements.
