The planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard King by Microsoft has raised questions in many fans how it will continue in the future. First of all, of course, whether franchises like Call of Duty will be console extrudes for the Xbox in the future. The Xbox boss had already refuted, but only in relation to existing contracts. Now there is more clarity.
Action against Activision Blizzard : Currently is a claim for discrimination against Call of Duty-Publisher Activision Blizzard for discrimination, sexual assaults and poor working conditions in progress. All information about the allegations of a few weeks ago can be found here, everything to the newer scandal around CEO Bobby Kotick here. A comment by Blizzard Editor-in-Chief Editor Rae Grimm regarding our reporting on the topic can be found here.
Call of Duty remains multiplatform in the future
That's why: Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda meant that some of the upcoming studios will appear exclusively for Microsoft consoles, including Starfield. Consequently, of course, the question was the question in the room, as that would look like in the future with the games of Publisher Activision Blizzard. XBox boss Phil Spencer had already assured that existing contracts are complied with with Sony, but what would happen beyond that was unclear.
Now Microsoft has brought light into the dark in a blog entry and explains that Call of Duty and other activision blizzard games should also appear beyond existing arrangements for the PlayStation and Switch:
We have committed to Sony that we will also be available [Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard Games] beyond existing arrangements and will be available in the future for PlayStation so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love. We also have interest to go to similar steps to support Nintendo's successful platform.
Which title includes the "other popular activision blizzard games" is not clear from the message, but at least call of duty fans can probably end up. And even Sony is likely to be very satisfied with the agreement, after all, the loss of Call of Duty alone could have cost Sony million.
Here is the trailer for the current offshoot Vanguard:
That's how it should continue for Call of Duty
Also this year Call of Duty should get a new offshoot as usual again. But much is not known, only that, according to the publisher's points, it is probably the most ambitious project of the franchise. At least the leaks are already held.
According to those, the new part should become a successor of Modern Warfare and listen to the name Modern Warfare II. Ambitious, the project seems to be definitely, at least if one considers that it is supposed to be as expensive as Cyberpunk 2077.
In 2023, we could even expect a warzone successor, which appears according to insiders but only for current-gene consoles, ie PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
