The German volleyballers have reached the EM the quarterfinals and thus stand for the fifth time in a row in the round of the best eight. The team of national coach Andrea Giani won the second round on Sunday in the Czech Ostrau against Bulgaria 3-1 (25:14, 18:25, 25:19, 25:22). Nearest opponent is now Italy, the quarterfinals will take place on Wednesday again in Ostrau.
Germany then goes as an outsider in the duel with the six-time European champion, which in the second round of Latvia at the 3-0 no chance. However, the real sparkling days of the Italians are already back a while, the last European Championship title gained in 2005. In the 1990s, Italy also crowned at the world champion three times.
The selection of the German Volleyball Association (DVV) drove on Sunday the fifth victory in the sixth tournament game, only the duel with Olympic champion France in the group stage was lost (1: 3). At least at this EM, Germany is thus holding at least the level of recent years: Since 2013, the leap into the quarterfinals - only in 2017, the DVV team made it beyond this lap: four years ago Germany was in Poland Vice European Champion and came to the Title so close like never.

The EM 2021 takes place in Estonia, Finland, Poland and the Czech Republic, the semi-finals and medal games will be held in Katowice next weekend.
