After his defeat in the final over 200 m back, US float Ryan Murphy has raised doping allegations against the double Olympic champion Jevgeni Rylov. "I swim in a race that is probably not clean," said the gold medalist of Rio and said his Russian successor.
On the question of whether the final was fair, Murphy replied: "I have about 15 thoughts, 13 of which would bring me a lot of trouble."
Rylov, who had previously been over 100 meters, occurs officially for the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) as his 328 compatriots in Tokyo due to the barrier through the World Anti-Doping Agency Wada. At the award ceremony, instead of the Russian hymn, he heard the Piano Concerto No. 1 by Peter Tchaikowsky.
"People who know more about the situation than me, have made this decision," said Murphy, who won over 200 m silver and over 100 m bronze, "it frustrates me, but I have to compete against these opponents." He could not train at the highest level of Olympia and at the same time try "people who make decisions" to convince, "that they do the wrong decisions".
Already right after the race Murphy had said frustrated: "I'm just hit on this really strong guy from Russia or the Russian Olympic Committee, as you want to call that." Rylov, world champion of 2019, reacted "surprised" on the "strange subordination". Later in the press conference emphasized the Olympic Adrit of Rio: "I have always been clean. I was always tested. I am for clean sports. I dedicated my whole life to the sport."
